20 Teams Vie for 25th JA Cup Championship

David Cheng Executive Secretary, HKJA

The 25th Hong Kong Journalist Association Football Cup Annual tournament (JA Cup) began on November 14. Twenty teams representing different media organizations competed every weekend at Happy Valley Playground.

From the electronic medium we had RTHK, Cable TV News Teams A & B, now TV news Teams A & B, RTHK TV, Metro Radio, ATV and Hong Kong Broadband Network. The print media teams were Oriental Daily, Apple Daily, Metro Daily, Ta Kung Pao, SCMP and Hong Kong Economic Times, and others included  "Slow Shutter" (composed of local news photographers), "Hartiend FC" (composed of local sport news reporters), "Kong Man Luen (literally mean Local News League)", "Journalists Friends" and "Good Feeling Fluorescent light bulb".

A simple kick off ceremony on November 14, 2009 signaled the start of the JA Cup season. Defending champion Cable News Team A (Cable A) took on "Slow Shutter" for the very first match and played a total game of offense and defense to secure a very impressive win - 12-0.

You are welcome to watch the matches, cheer your colleagues and support your favorite football team. (For JA Cup schedule please visit http://www.hkja.org.hk)

Apple Daily has an eye-to-eye competition with “Kong Man Luen”. The result of 1:1 must be attributed to the excellent performance of the goalkeeper.

Hartiend FC’s keeper was in excellent form with many fine saves. HKBN players worked hard but failed to break even and the final tally was 2:0 in Hartiend FC’s favour.

Special thanks are extended to the following for their generous support. Without their donations, the 25th JA Cup will not be assured of success.
