JA Cup marks 25th year

David Cheng - Executive Secretary, HKJA

"The ball is round".

This was the late sports anchor Ng Fong-wing's way of reminding us that football was not about gaining honors or promotion. It was about getting together, exchanging views and improving oneself.

The Hong Kong Journalists Association has long shared Fong-wing's views. That's why every autumn over the past quarter century we have provided the opportunity, the wherewithal and venue for all journalists to meet each other through competition and camaraderie. And every year a good time was had by all.

This year, the 25th in the series, begins on 14 November at the Jockey Club's sports grounds in Happy Valley. As always, teams will battle it out every Saturday morning over four months for the trophy.

This will involve 20 teams and some 300 players from Hong Kong's media outfits. As in past years a HKISD representative team will take on the Clube de Jornalistas de Macau representative side on the final day.

Last year a media team took on a star-studded side from “Hollywood East” – stars of the silverscreen. There'll be another big clash with another star-studded team this year. Guess who?
